Abstract
Hospital surfaces can rapidly become contaminated with organisms capable of causing disease in healthy and immunocompromised patients. Although existing conventional cleaning methods are relatively cheap, quick, and efficacious if carried out correctly, they do not destroy all of the contaminating organisms every time and will not reach all of the surfaces within a room. Gaseous technologies are being used increasingly for room decontamination in the healthcare setting due to cycle speed and surface coverage. While they can be effective used on their own, they should be considered in combination with liquid decontamination to eliminate organisms from contaminated surfaces.
