Abstract

This chapter describes the UK authors’ experiences of developing the world’s first and longest running behavioral insights team dedicated to health established in 2013 at Public Health England. With a strong record of over 30 academic publications coming from this team, some of the most impactful trials in health are discussed. The authors structure their chapter into ten lessons learnt describing their journey from designing high impact novel policy interventions demonstrating the potential for behavioral insights, to the integration of a broader multidisciplinary behavioral science approach embedded throughout the public health system and the enduring impact of the world’s first Behavioural and Social Sciences Strategy. Former members of the team have gone on to work for GlaxoSmithKline, the International Rescue Committee, the Centre for Advanced Hindsight and the London School of Economics.
