Abstract
Although the UK has a low prevalence of hepatitis B, a universal vaccination programme would be beneficial, and should be introduced-but the best strategy is not yet clear, and we might need new combination vaccines. As many infections are imported it remains vital for the UK to work with others to improve vaccination programmes in countries with a high prevalence of hepatitis B. This could, in the long term, be more cost effective than anything we do in the UK.
