Abstract

Influenza is a widespread respiratory infection that can have serious implications for travellers. Those going overseas can undertake a range of precautions before, during and after their visit to prevent or mitigate the impact of both seasonal and avian influenza. Health care workers in both primary and secondary care should be aware of influenza as an important infection in returning travellers and the interventions that must be promptly implemented to minimize the potential serious health consequences for the patient and those around them.
