Abstract

The influence of the environment on health has been rapidly moving up the agenda in recent years, initially in relation to air quality and water quality, but latterly because of climate change. Responsibility for the management of environmental effects on health, although generally falling to public health physicians, is divided, largely because the main issue surrounding a specific situation does not fit easily into one special area of expertise. Our understanding and management of the health effects of environmental factors requires the multidisciplinary working, and consequently training and career development, that encompasses this philosophy.
