Abstract

The dorsolateral subthalamic projections (DLSTN) connect the subthalamic nucleus to the posterior middle frontal gyrus. DLSTN projections run vertically from the subthalamic nucleus coalescing in the internal capsule, lateral to thalamic nuclei and medial to the globus pallidus and putamen. The DLSTN projections are anterior to the corticospinal tract, medial to the superior putaminal projections, and lateral to the caudate. At the level of the body of the corpus callosum, the DLSTN projections branch laterally and fan out to the middle frontal gyrus.
