Abstract
Non-biting flies have been implicated in the transmission of a wide variety of pathogens over the last century1-5 and are still regarded as important vectors for the direct transmission of pathogens from one infected patient to another, as well as for the transmission from faeces to food, the eye or the mouth.6 However, epidemiological evidence supporting disease transmission in this way is poor for a number of reasons (Table 40.1).
