Abstract

In this chapter we shall describe a general approach to outbreak investigation and discuss some of the limitations and pitfalls inherent in the process. As should be clear from the introduction to Section 2, many aspects of outbreak investigation are dealt with in more detail in subsequent chapters. Further discussion of the epidemiological approaches important to waterborne outbreak investigation can be found elsewhere.
