Abstract

Objective To understand the influence of health education on HPV-related knowledge and attitudes towards HPV vaccination among healthcare professionals in Sichuan province, so as to provide reference basis for the further promotion of HPV vaccine in Sichuan province. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted on the healthcare professionals who participated in the national cervical cancer prevention training program in Sichuan Province from 2018 to 2019. The subjects ' cognition of HPV-related knowledge and attitudes towards HPV vaccine before and elfter training were compared by 2 test. T-test was used to compare the average score difference of HPV related knowledge among people who were willing or unwilling to recommend HPV vaccine. Results The valid questionnaires before and after training were 485 and 459 respectively. After training, healthcare professionals' knowledge had been improved in different degrees. The proportion of healthcare professionals who thought that HPV vaccine was safe (χ2=27.881, P<0.001), effective (χ2=24.943, P<0.001) and willing to actively recommend HPV vaccine (χ2=24.010, P<0.001) was higher than that before training. The average score of HPV related knowledge of the group willing to actively recommend vaccine was higher than that of the unwilling group, both before (t=5.328, P<0.001) and after (t=3.090, P<0.05) training. The main reasons for the reluctance of healthcare professionals to recommend HPV vaccine were insufficient knowledge (31.5%), high price (22.6%) and doubts about the effectiveness and safety of HPV vaccine (22.6%). Conclusion Various forms of health education should be carried out to improve healthcare professionals' HPV-related knowledge and attitudes towards HPV vaccine promotion, so as to improve the acceptance of HPV vaccine and provide population basis for primary prevention of cervical cancer.
