Personal profile

Research interests

I am a Consultant Epidemiologist in the UK Health Security Agency.  I lead the Applied Epidemiology Research Team in the Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infections Division, Emerging Infections Directorate. I have a joint role working at the Institute for Health Informatics, University College London.

I lead the UK SIREN healthcare worker cohort study. Initially a pandemic response study investigating protection from SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 vaccination, we have adapted the study over time to address ongoing public health priorities. Our current research priorities as a team include NHS winter pressures, pandemic preparedness and healthcare worker health.

I am a Principal Research Fellow with the VIVALDI study team, Institute of Health Informatics at UCL.   The VIVALDI Social Care study aims to understand the burden of infections and antimicrobial resistance in care homes for older adults in England, and how we can reduce infections to improve the health and quality of life of all those who live, work and visit care homes. My particular focus is on infections in care home teams and building research with care home staff.

I lead the Applied Epidemiology Research Team to conduct responsive research to emerging public health priorities, particularly following infectious disease incidents.      As a team we have considerable skills in delivering applied research on emerging infections, designing scalable data collection and sampling pipelines and participant involvement.

I am a primary site supervisor for the UK Field Epidemiology Training Programme based at the Colindale site, and a Faculty of Health accredited Educational Supervisor for the Public Health Speciality Training Programme.

I am a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and member of the UKFETP Alumni Network and the EPIET Alumni Network.
