Personal profile

Research interests

I am a medical epidemiologist at the UK Health Security Agency, where I lead on national surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance and Prescribing. My interest is in the appropriate use of antibiotics and other measures to slow the spread of antimicrobial resistance in the UK and globally. In recent years, I led UKHSA’s outbreak response to national incidents such as COVID-19, Staphylococcus capitis in hospitalised infants, hepatitis of unknown aetiology in children, Candidozyma auris.
I am also a consultant in paediatric infectious diseases and immunology at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, where I led the paediatric antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control programmes until 2022.
I launched and now chair the UK Paediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship network since 2019. I currently work on antimicrobial resistance policy with the UK Institute of Development Studies and the Japan National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in a Dame Sally Davies fellowship role and am the vice chair of the evaluation panel for the NHSE/NICE antimicrobial products subscription model.
