Oropouche virus – collaborating across UKHSA to inform and develop the R&D roadmap of the Bunyaviricetes Collaborative Open Research Consortia (CORC) on behalf of the WHO

Impact: Health impacts

Description of impact

As part of global pandemic preparedness efforts, UKHSA is leading Collaborative
Open Research Consortia (CORC) on behalf of the World Health Organization
(WHO), including one for viruses in the Bunyaviricetes class. An objective of the
Bunyaviricetes CORC is to develop a research and development (R&D) roadmap
describing priorities for outbreak preparedness for Oropouche virus (OROV). To doso, a virtual workshop with international experts was organised to identify expert-ledresearch priorities that informed the subsequent R&D roadmap and researchpriorities produced by the CORC. In addition, the UKHSA Science Evidence Review (SER) team produced an evidence gap map (EGM) based on rapid systematic methodologies to identify evidence gaps on OROV. The EGM produced by UKHSA complemented the CORC R&D roadmap by providing the evidence base to support the priorities identified. The strengths of the project included the dynamic, collaborative approach between multidisciplinary teams across UKHSA and national and international stakeholders to deliver an insightful and evidence-based roadmap to inform research prioritisation in a short timeframe.
